Grievances

If you have issues at work, your way of raising those is usually to submit a grievance. Your employer's policy may provide for both informal and formal grievances to be raised.

When submitting a grievance, you need to understand that these can cause your employer a lot of aggravation and so you may not get the outcome you desire or the grievance can back-fire. Equally, if your grievance is of a serious nature, for example alleging discrimination or bullying, then your employer may not uphold your complaint because to do so would entitle you to win in an employment tribunal claim.

If you are alleging anything serious then it's best to take advice. We can assist you in formulating your grievance to ensure it is properly structured and supported because your grievance will be the bedrock/foundation of your employment tribunal claim.

Grievance procedures are often incredibly stressful, and employees sometimes use them as a tactic to delay dismissal procedures, such as, redundancy or disciplinary. If you are at the stage of having to submit a grievance you may prefer to exit the business with a settlement agreement/financial package. Our employment law solicitors regularly help clients achieve such successful outcomes.
